Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation Launches Yellow Brick Road Campaign
Campaign to help Underserved Children and Habitat for Humanity
Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation has launched the Yellow Brick Road campaign, a scholarship program to help underserved 6th, 7th and 8th grade children attend full day S.T.E.A.M. summer camp starting June 10, 2024. With the learning skills gained at the camp, the children will build playhouses to donate to Habitat for Humanity.
Along with funding scholarships, the Yellow Brick Road campaign will build a brick trail leading down to Mayor Matt Hall Hill to honor the former Carlsbad mayor and all he accomplished for the city. Each donor will receive a brick which will be engraved with either a quote, saying or “in memory of.” Bricks will be used to pave the trail to the hill, a wonderful classroom module/picnic area at the Discovery Center.
“We are looking for corporations, small and medium sized businesses, groups and/or individuals who would like to purchase a brick to help underserved students attend camp on full scholarship and, at the same time, honor our former mayor,” stated Lisa Rodman, CEO and president of Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation. “We have two weeks funded of the six-week summer camp. We need to fund the other weeks.”

S.T.E.A.M. summer camp will accommodate twelve children maximum per weekly session. A different group of middle schoolers will be in attendance each week.
Three donation levels are available. A $25,000 brick will fund twelve students for one week, and $3,000 will also go towards building the playhouses. A $10,000 brick will provide transportation for six children round trip from anywhere in the county for the week. A $5,000 brick will fully fund two children to attend camp for a week. There are a limited number of bricks in each category.

“Habitat for Humanity currently has a wait list of families in need of playhouses. We hope to build six playhouses – one each week. A pre-arranged, one or two-year pay plan with every other week payments can make it easier for organizations and individuals to purchase a brick,” explained Rodman. “Friends, neighbors, service groups and churches can go together to buy a brick. The bricks have already been donated as has the masonry and laying of the bricks.”
