Wanted Felon Arrested In North County After License Plate Camera Alert

SAN MARCOS, CA — A wanted felon was arrested in North County after a license plate recognition camera alerted deputies to his vehicle, authorities said Tuesday.

Deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff's Station learned Aug. 14 that Brian Buffett, 67, had an active felony warrant for possession of controlled substances with prior convictions, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies received an alert around 10:39 p.m. that Buffett's vehicle was near the 500 block of Grand Avenue in San Marcos, sheriff's officials said. They located the vehicle, detained Buffett and arrested him on the outstanding warrant.

Buffett was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
