About 20 Carlsbad businesses will test the free, voluntary Carlsbad Family-Friendly Certified Program in 2027, helping refine its standards before a possible citywide rollout and potential use as a model for other communities.
• Oceanside creates working group to prepare for El Niño flooding (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Carlsbad is stepping up El Niño preparations by reviewing dam emergency plans, readying swift-water rescue and Urban Search & Rescue teams, and organizing sandbag distribution and drainage clearing. The update comes as Oceanside and other nearby cities launch similar efforts to reduce flooding risks, inspect pumps and generators, and coordinate regional emergency responses ahead of potentially severe winter storms.
• Three Players Added to 2026-27 Women's Golf Roster - Eastern Michigan University Athletics (emueagles.com) — Carlsbad golfer Karen Tsuru is taking her talents to Eastern Michigan University after three standout seasons at Oregon, where she earned All-America honors and NCAA postseason experience. Local golf fans can follow her next chapter as she competes nationally with two years of eligibility remaining.
