SAN DIEGO, CA — Trader Joe's, the Monrovia-based grocery chain, is expanding its presence with three new stores planned for San Diego County, the company announced.
One of those new locations, in Clairemont, is slated to open within the next six months, according to the grocery chain. A second location, in San Marcos at the North City development, will be part of a mixed-use development planned near the California State University there. A third store is slated to take shape soon in Encinitas, according to reports.
In recent months, the grocer known for Hawaiian shirt-wearing workers and trendy food and sundry items has announced other stores coming to San Diego County, including an Encinitas store at 1590 Leucadia Boulevard in the Forum Carlsbad shopping center, and another at 3962 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard in San Diego's Clairemont Town Square. The Clairemont store, already under construction, will be #299 in the store's arsenal, according to the location's page on the grocer's website.
A spokesperson from Trader Joe's corporate stated that there is currently no specific opening date for the Clairemont location, though it has been added to the company's "Opening Soon" list. This list typically appears on the Trader Joe's website three to six months before a store opens, suggesting that the Clairemont store is likely to open within the next four to six months, the store said.
This will make approximately 20 Trader Joe's stores in San Diego County, where shoppers can purchase the store's popular tote bags, dark chocolate peanut butter cups, teeny tiny avocados, and "everything but the leftovers" seasoning blend.
