Army and Navy Academy’s Stephen Bliss Named President of National Association of Military Schools

Army and Navy Academy President Stephen Bliss has been named 2012 president of the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS).
Bliss, a retired Army brigadier general and president of the Carlsbad-based college preparatory school since 2002, was installed by the Fairfax, Va-based association at its annual meeting February 28 in Alexandria, Va.
Founded in 1914, AMCSUS includes 40 two- and four-year colleges and universities, college preparatory schools and academies that offer a quality education in a military environment with emphases on strong values, leadership development, citizenship and service to other.

“Our ongoing challenge is to teach American values and have them embraced by the generation that is currently in our charge,” Bliss said in assuming the position. “Never in our history has our educational model been more important to our nation’s future than it is now.”
Founded in 1910, the Army and Navy Academy is a private not-for-profit institution that provides an academically robust, character-based education for 7th- through 12th-grade young men. It is the only and the only military academy for high school-age students west of New Mexico.
