Larry Anderson named Most Admired CEO

Larry B. Anderson, Chief Executive Officer at Tri-City Medical Center, was named Most Admired CEO by the San Diego Business Journal in recognition of his continued and innovative efforts to keep the North County hospital financially sound, technologically advanced and in the forefront of offering quality care.

Mr. Anderson, who was hired in 2009, turned the financially-ailing hospital around within two years, converting an $11 million loss in 2010 to a $16.7 million
profit in 2011. Continuing the winning financial trend in 2012, the public hospital delivered an $8.2 million profit for the year ending June 30, 2012.

Under his leadership, the 397-bed hospital has created the Cardiovascular and Orthopaedic and Spine Institutes and now ranks in the top 1 percent nationally for heart care and currently delivers the “best outcomes” in the treatment of heart attack and heart failure of all hospitals in San Diego County.

Mr. Anderson’s accomplishments were recognized during a ceremony Dec. 6  at the Paradise Point Resort and Spa in San Diego that was attended by hundreds of community and business leaders from throughout the county.

This is not the first time Mr. Anderson has been recognized by business and industry groups. He was named the 2012 Business Person of the Year by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce and earned the 2011 Healthcare Champion Award from the San Diego Business Journal for his leadership role in making significant organizational and financial changes.

During Mr. Anderson’s tenure, the Oceanside hospital has also invested in state-of-the-art robotic and laser systems, making it one of the technological leaders in the
healthcare industry.

The hospital also recently was named by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the top “100 Great Places to Work in Healthcare.”

In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Mr. Anderson gives freely of his time to the community, serving both the board and Executive Committee of the
Moonlight Cultural Foundation, and serving as President of the San Diego/Imperial County Chapter of the March of Dimes, as well as serving on the Boards of the Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties and the
District Hospital Leadership Forum.

During Mr. Anderson’s tenure, the hospital also has developed exclusive partnerships with UC San Diego Medical Center for a neonatal telemedicine program; the
international firm Mazor Robotics for spine surgery; and Vista-based DJO Global for Vitamin E total knee replacement.
