Tri-City Medical Center 50th Anniversary Celebration

Physicians, employees, volunteers, elected officials from Carlsbad, Oceanside and Vista and hundreds of community members came together Sept. 19 to celebrate Tri-City Medical Center’s 50th anniversary.

Over 750 people attended the golden gala at the Moonlight Amphitheatre in Vista. The evening was a look back at the history of the hospital and a look forward to the future. The evening featured a musical and dance revue produced just for the occasion. The evening began with a wine reception with a huge assortment of appetizers prepared by Tri-City’s Food and Nutrition department.

One of the highlights of the night was the standing ovation given to five longest-serving honorees; Dr. Jerald White, an obstetrician is the longest-serving physician who has delivered over 20,000 babies at the hospital; Joda Glassey, longest-serving nurse with 40 years in the emergency department; Dorothy McCracken, longest-serving volunteer who has logged 10,620 hours in that role; Salvador Ramirez, longest-serving employee who actually worked on the crew that built the hospital and still comes to work every day in the Engineering department; and Dr. Richard Muir, an orthopaedic surgeon with 32 years at the hospital who along with his wife Peggy are the longest-serving donors giving continuously and generously for 26 years.

A musical performance produced by Moonlight Stage Productions set the hospital’s achievements over the past half century to ‘solid gold’ music and dance numbers. John Vaughan created, directed and choreographed the show chronicling Tri-City’s evolution from community hospital to regional healthcare leader.

Oceanside mayor, Jim Wood, echoing the sentiments of many in attendance said the event was a “…great party for a great hospital that is such an integral part of our community. Tri-City’s growth and success is vital to the growth of Oceanside and the surrounding areas.”
