Are You America’s Best Putter?
The inaugural U.S. Putting Tour championship event will take place in Carlsbad Sept. 26-Oct. 2.
Carlsbad resident and avid golfer Jim Hartley says putting isn’t his strength, but he’s excited to see who is America’s Best Putter.
As president of the U.S. Putting Tour, Hartley will present $10,000 in cash and prizes to the top pro and amateur winners (men and women) of its inaugural USPT Championship putting tournament, which will be held Sept. 26-Oct. 2 at . Amateur golfers will compete for prizes valued in accordance with the USGA’s rules on amateur status. All competitors will battle for the USPT Championship trophy and the title of America’s Best Putter.
Beginning Monday, Sept. 26, Round 1 will be held for PGA professionals who normally have Mondays off. Tuesday and Wednesday will be play-in days for golfers not entered in the championship. Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be additional Round 1 days open to all golfers, although preference will be given to golfers from outside of Southern California to schedule their Round 1 on Saturday.

During the contest, golfers will play a 72-hole round of putting. The top 72 putters will advance to Championship Sunday on Oct. 2.
