Authorities ID Teen Fatally Shot In North County

The boy was shot when an unknown suspect got out of a vehicle and fired several rounds toward a group of people, Lt. Michael Krugh​ said.​

SAN MARCOS, CA — Authorities Tuesday identified a teenager who was fatally shot last week in northern San Diego County.

Isaac Shekhayem, 17, of San Marcos was shot in the upper torso May 15 in the parking lot of a business center at the 900 block of Los Vallecitos Boulevard in San Marcos, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

A group of people were standing in the parking lot when an unknown vehicle pulled over on Los Vallecitos Boulevard, and an unknown suspect got out of the vehicle, pulled out a gun and fired several rounds toward the group, Lt. Michael Krugh said.

Shekhayem was shot and taken to Palomar Hospital, where he died, Krugh said. Palomar Hospital reported that the wounded teen was in the emergency room and had been taken to the hospital by two companions.

An autopsy was completed May 17. The preliminary cause of death is a gunshot wound and the manner of death is homicide, Krugh said.

"At this stage of the investigation, the motivation and circumstances of the crime are still under investigation," Krugh said. "There is no suspect information at this time."
