The Carlsbad Unified School District is proud to share that Mrs. Katie Browne, Director of Bands at Aviara Oaks Middle School, has received the Artful Advocate award at the Arts Empower Ovation Awards for San Diego County Region 5.

The Artful Advocate award is given to an individual or organization advocating to strengthen arts education. The recipient’s advocacy achievements may include, but not be limited to the following elements:
- Raising awareness of successes and achievements of student learning and growth in the arts
- Raising awareness of the needs in arts education in the district
- Influencing/guiding fellow educators in the district to promote quality instruction and learning opportunities
The Arts Empower San Diego Ovation Awards were held on Thursday, February 27, 2020, in the Morris B. Vance Community Room at the Vista Civic Center.

Arts Empower is a collective impact initiative working to improve and support arts education in San Diego County. The Arts Empower Ovation Awards recognize and honor individuals and organizations that are working to ensure every student in San Diego County is engaged in a personally relevant, equitable, standards-based arts education.
Carlsbad Unified School District is located in the Arts Empower San Diego County Region 5, which includes the following school districts: Bonsall, Borrego Springs Unified, Carlsbad Unified, Fallbrook Union, Fallbrook Union High, Oceanside Unified, San Marcos Unified, Vallecitos, Valley Center-Pauma Unified, Vista Unified, and Warner Unified.
