Aztec Coach Talks Football at La Costa Glen Retirement Community

SDSU Head Football Coach Rocky Long visits with seniors at Carlsbad retirement community.

“The only game that matters is the one you’re playing next,” according to San Diego State University’s Head Football Coach Rocky Long.

Long made a special trip to La Costa Glen retirement community in Carlsbad recently as part of the community’s popular “Sports Night” program for residents. In a casual presentation full of good humor mixed with tough football talk, Long took numerous questions from the audience ranging from college recruiting to his philosophy of old-school, ground and pound football. Long confirmed that several Aztec stars will be returning for the 2016 football season, including senior running back Donnel Pumphrey, who ran for 1,653 total yards in 2015 and scored 17 touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Christian Chapman, a graduate of Carlsbad High School, will also be back.

Also representing the Aztec Nation that night were Bob Moosbrugger, SDSU deputy director of athletics, and Mandy Huiras, senior associate athletic director of development.
