Babysitter, Boyfriend Accused of Molesting 7-Year-Olds at Carlsbad Residence: Police

Carlsbad police believe there may be other victims of Brittney Lyon and Samuel Cabrera Jr.

Carlsbad, CA — A babysitter and her 22-year-old boyfriend are being held in a San Diego County jail on suspicion of molesting two 7-year-old girls in Carlsbad, police said Thursday.

Carlsbad police allege that 22-year-old Brittney Lyon of Escondido took children that she was babysitting to a home in the 6300 block of Greenhaven Drive in Carlsbad, where her 22-year-old boyfriend, Samuel Cabrera Jr., lives. At the residence, Cabrera reportedly sexually molested the girls while Lyon filmed the acts, police allege.

Carlsbad police spokeswoman Jodee Sasway said the situation was first brought to the department's attention Tuesday evening.

Carlsbad police say one of the 7-year-old girls victimized lives in Oceanside, while the other lives in Escondido. Investigators believe there might be additional victims, Sasway said.

Investigators arrested Lyon and Cabrera Wednesday for multiple felony counts that included conspiracy and lewd and lascivious conduct with a child under the age of 14.

Both were booked into the Vista Detention Facility, where Lyon’s bail was set at $100,000 and Cabrera’s bail was set at $2.3 million.

Both remained behind bars Thursday and were set to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Friday, jail records showed.

Cabrera was being held on suspicion of conspiracy and 23 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, while Lyon was being held on suspicion of conspiracy and one count of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14.

"We are equally disturbed and outraged that adults would victimize children in this way," said Carlsbad police Chief Neil Gallucci. "The safety and welfare of children are our top priority and we are committed to presenting a comprehensive case to the District Attorney’s Office."

The Carlsbad Police Department asked for the public’s assistance. Anyone who has information related to any potential illicit activity by Lyon or Cabrera is asked to call the Police Hotline at 760-931-2293.
