​Bicyclist ​Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash In North County

The bicyclist was struck by two vehicles in Vista.

VISTA, CA —A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash involving two vehicles in San Diego's North County, authorities said Friday.

The collision between two vehicles and a bicyclist happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. Thursday on South Melrose Drive at the intersection with Buena Vista Drive in Vista, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

"The first motorist bumped into the bicyclist, remained at the scene, and cooperated with the investigation," Sgt. Eric Cottrell said. "A second motorist struck the bicyclist and fled the scene of the collision northbound on South Melrose Drive."

The second motorist was believed to have been driving a white crossover or SUV.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, Cottrell said.

The Sheriff's Department was seeking the public's help in finding the vehicle involved that left the scene.

Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. Tipsters can remain anonymous. Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest in the case.
