Carlsbad to Celebrate Arbor Day April 27

The City of Carlsbad is celebrating Arbor Day Saturday, April 27, by working with local volunteers to plant trees at Calavera Hills Community Park.

The tree-planting activities will take place 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Calavera Hills Community Park, 2997 Glasgow Drive.  Volunteer registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with a planting demonstration to follow. 

“Arbor Day is a great opportunity to give back to the community and help the environment, while meeting new friends and neighbors,” said Kyle Lancaster, parks superintendent for the City of Carlsbad.

Volunteers will plant trees, restore irrigation basins and pick up litter throughout the morning.  This effort will help Carlsbad retain its status as a Tree City USA for the ninth consecutive year.  The designation is given by the national Arbor Day Foundation and acknowledges the city’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.

In addition to the tree-planting, the Arbor Day event at Calavera Hills Community Center will feature tree maintenance displays and booths from SDG&E, Davey Tree, Western Environmental Consultants and West Coast Arborists.  Displays and booths will be set up near the community center.

Tools will be provided for all volunteers.  It is requested that people bring work gloves, a hat, sunscreen and wear closed toe shoes.  If volunteers can bring additional shovels, it would be greatly appreciated.  Children age 16 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
