The Dr. Sears Cover Story In Time Magazine

The current TIME Magazine cover has raised a lot of eyebrows with a mother breastfeeding her nearly four-year-old son. But still, breastfeeding is the best way to boost a baby's immunity.

Dr. Bill Sears is a close friend of mine.  And as many already know, he is the driving force of the current May 21 cover story of TIME MAGAZINE.  Beside the controversial photo of a mother breastfeeding her nearly 4-year-old child, the bold headline reads, “ARE YOU MOM ENOUGH?”

The article highlights Dr. Sears’ advocacy towards attachment parenting.  This parenting philosophy encourages parents to fully take on the dependency needs of their babies.  A piece of this parenting puzzle is geared at the psychological and health benefits of breastfeeding.

I have a great deal of respect for Bill and the numerous positive impacts he has created for so many families.  He's a phenomenal doctor and researcher who has treated thousands of children while guiding their parents -- I believe he truly is America’s pediatrician.

One thing we are like-minded about are the health theories behind breastfeeding babies.  So much in fact, I am a major advocate of high quality shark liver oil supplements which mothers are adding to their daily diet.

Shark liver oil provides a unique active ingredient called alkylglycerols.  This ingredient, also referred to as AKG, is found naturally in the breast milk of a woman. Interestingly, a mother’s breast milk contains 10 times the amount of AKG which is found in cow’s milk.

Taking shark liver oil supplements for lactating women is extremely important because it ensures that there are sufficient levels of AKG.  For babies, AKG is the key element they need for a strong immune system.

So, despite the diverse strong opinions of the TIME Magazine cover photo this week, for me, mothers who do breastfeed remains a crucial element in the optimum health for their babies.
