Carjacking Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested
Jason Wehe, 37, is in custody as a suspect in the July 2 car theft and assault with a deadly weapon at the Carlsbad mall.

Around 7:45 p.m. , a man and wife walked back to their parked car at in Carlsbad only to find someone in the process of trying to steal it.
The man confronted the suspect. But instead of stopping, the suspect started the car and backed the vehicle up hitting the man's wife in the process. Her injuries did not require medical transportation.
Meanwhile the suspect fled the scene after striking another vehicle, then ditched the car in the 1800 block of Marron and fled on foot.

investigated this incident with the assistance of the San Diego County Crime Stoppers, and from the San Diego Regional Auto Theft Task Force, the Escondido Police Department and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. During the investigation the suspect was identified as Jason Wehe.
On July 19, Wehe was arrested by members of the San Diego Regional Auto Theft Task Force and the Escondido Police Department. Wehe was booked into the Vista Detention Facility for Parole Violation, being in possession of a controlled substance, possession of burglary tools, and possession of a hypodermic needle.

On July 22, Wehe was additionally arrested, while still incarcerated at the Vista Detention Facility, for Carjacking, two counts of Assault with Deadly Weapon, Hit and Run with injury, and Hit and Run with property damage. Wehe is currently being held without bail.
