We have been going to Carlsbad State Beach. Right off PCH along the main seawall. It's great lifeguards, bathrooms, showers. My one problem was the waves sometimes are really rough, and I have to watch my kids like a hawk!
This is not very relaxing... Last week we were planted in-front of the lifeguard tower, I figured her ability to save my kids were better than mine. And I asked her if she could recommend a spot with less intense waves and rip currents.
She explained a lot of information about ocean floors, wave directions and jetties. The bottom line: She recommended the strip of beach just a little south of Tamarack before the smokestack!
We have gone twice... and my mind was much more at ease. The waves are less intense. They roll in more.. You have to park along PCH, there were no lifeguards. And there are well, port-a-potties. But the difference in the waves was worth it to me. Also it is a little more mellow than the main beach. Anyways cheers to the sun :)
