Carlsbad Resident Receives PVSA Award for Commitment to Volunteerism

AT&T Recognizes Local Employee, Diane Schwantes, Who Logged 195 Volunteer Hours in 2016

During April's National Volunteer Month, AT&T recognized local employees who have committed to sustained volunteerism for more than 100 hours in 2016 with the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA). Carlsbad resident, Diane Schwantes was one of the 4,200 employees awarded nationally, and one of 65 awarded here in San Diego.

Diane participates in the Susan G. Komen 3-day event, raising money and awareness in the battle against breast cancer. She has participated in eight walks and has individually raised over $40,000. On November 3rd, 2017, she will complete her 500th 3-day event mile, having walked nearly 750 miles per year to train and prepare for the 3-day, 60 mile walk. She continues her involvement with the organization in the hopes that breast cancer is eradicated in her lifetime so no family has to lose a loved one to the disease

In addition to Susan G. Komen, Diane was a founding board member with Women of AT&T’s regional chapter and is also an active member of the San Diego Music Coterie. Between the three organizations, Diane logged a total of 195 volunteer hours this past year. She chooses to volunteer because her parents instilled in her the belief in giving back. At age 86, Diane’s mom still volunteers for her local community.
