Carlsbad Routs San Pasqual, Will Face Torrey Pines

Frechette and Aburto combine for 272 yards rushing as the Lancers roll, 34-6; Army-Navy season ends with loss to Holtville.

 After a scoreless first quarter, Carlsbad High put up 27 points before halftime Friday night and rolled to a 34-6 victory over San Pasqual in the opening round of the San Diego Section Division I playoffs.

Tanner  Wrisley, Ashton Frechette and Armani Aburto led the Lancers, who now will face second-seeded Torrey Pines in a quarterfinal game Friday on the Falcons' field. Torrey Pines beat the Lancers there 42-18 on Oct. 1 in a non-league game.

Wrisley hit Jason Floyd on a 31-yard scoring play just nine seconds into the second quarter and the floodgates opened for Carlsbad (6-5). After Aburto ran in a touchdown from 14 yards out to make it 13-0, Wrisley connected with Connor Sodono for a 16-yard score and Patrick Sullivan caught a 22-yard TD pass from Frechette just before the half for a 27-0 Lancer lead.

Aburto totaled 137 yards on just eight carries and Frechette added 135 rushing yards, including a 1-yard TD in the third quarter, on 13 carries. Carlsbad completed 4-of-7 passes for 101 yards while the defense was limiting the Eagles to 2-of-15 passing for only 11 yards. Carlsbad had 365 yards rushing.

On defense, Taylor Towner had two sacks for the Lancers, Bryson Cabacungan added an interception, and Andrew Proulx blocked a San Pasqual field goal attempt.

Holtville Eliminates Army-Navy, 28-22

Army-Navy Academy saw its season come to an end in Holtville Friday night when the Warriors dropped a 28-22 decision to the Vikings in a first-round Division V game.

Army-Navy, who had lost at Holtville by the same score on Oct. 22, finishes the season at 4-7.
