Carlsbad Teacher Gives Students 'Tools To Become Lifelong Learners'

CARLSBAD, CA — Gay Sulit from The Goddard School of Carlsbad was honored with a 2023 Goddard Teacher of the Year Award.

Sulit brought more than 20 years of experience in early childhood care to The Goddard School when she joined the childcare and early education provider in 2014.

"One of the greatest rewards of teaching is influencing young minds and giving them tools to become lifelong learners," Sulit told Patch. "I like to create enjoyable learning experiences that capture their interests and captivate them."

Sulit joined The Goddard School in 2014 as the lead kindergarten teacher.

Even after being promoted to curriculum manager, Sulit continues to teach the kindergarten program. According to The Goddard School, she places an emphasis on supporting her students' social, emotional and academic learning, and helps them build the confidence needed to become leaders.

Sulit joins 15 other teachers nationwide who were selected from more than 3,100 nominations for their embodiment of competence, leadership, creativity and a nurturing demeanor. According to The Goddard School, all 16 regional winners created strong bonds between home and school and incorporated their own passions into their teaching while continuing to ensure the health and safety of their students.

"I'm thrilled to receive this award and thank my colleagues and Goddard families for making it possible," Sulit said. "It's an honor to be included on this prestigious list, and I look forward to continuing to create more rewarding experiences for my students for years to come."

In addition to being named a 2023 Teacher of the Year, Goddard Systems gifted each of the regional winners a $1,000 cash award and dedicated a custom set of Life Lesson Library books, Goddard's social-emotional development program, to each school in the teacher's name.
