This evening, our Board of Trustees held an emergency meeting to review and discuss our district response to the unfolding COVID-19 situation. We made the decision this evening to move our spring break from the week of April 13 to the week of April 6, for the sake of continuity of school closure. In order to curb the potential transmission of COVID-19, all Carlsbad Unified schools will be closed from Monday, March 16 through Friday, April 10, 2020 (which now includes one week of spring break). Students will return to school on Monday, April 13, 2020.
We recognize that this change may create a problem for families and staff with pre-arranged travel plans during the week of April 13. We did not believe it to be in our students’ best interest to close schools for three weeks, reopen for one week, and then close for an additional week for spring break. We realize that this change may cause a hardship for some families and staff, and we’re sorry for this. By closing for four consecutive weeks, we increase our chances of significantly curbing the potential transmission of COVID-19.

Before the weekend begins, we’d like to remind everyone that the purpose of school closure in Carlsbad is to maintain health and wellness within our community. Please continue to follow the important guidance provided by health agencies regarding hand washing, social distancing, and care if you become ill.
Thank you to our staff, students, families and community for coming together in these challenging times and working together for the common good. I’m proud to support this amazing community.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ben Churchill
Superintendent
