CIF Baseball: LCC Into Semis, Carlsbad Eliminated
La Costa Canyon knocks off Steele Canyon and will play again Tuesday; Lancers knocked out by Vista.

With a 6-1 victory over Steele Canyon at home on Friday, La Costa Canyon remained unbeaten in the CIF San Diego Section Division II baseball playoffs, but Carlsbad High was knocked out of the Division I tournament, falling 6-1 to Vista.
Nick Hanggie went 3-for-3 with a run batted in for the Mavericks, who also got two hits apiece from Matt Hall and Daniel Martin. Chad Jensen had two RBIs. Andrew Hinkle tossed a five-hitter, striking out three.
The Mavericks (26-6) host the winner of Saturday's Steele Canyon (17-13) vs.-Bonita Vista (19-13) elimination game at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Carlsbad could manage only four hits off off Vista's Hayden Carter, who lost his shutout bid in the seventh inning. The No. 9-seeded Lancers won their first playoff game against No. 8 Mira Mesa before falling to top-seeded Rancho Bernardo and fourth-seeded Vista. Carlsbad finished the season with a 16-15 record.
