CSUD: CHSTV And VMSTV Win The STN Award Of Excellence

On April 7, 2020 the Student Television Network awarded Valley Middle School and Carlsbad High School’s broadcast journalism programs with the prestigious STN Award of Excellence. CHSTV won in the competitive ‘Daily, Live’ category and VMSTV won in the ‘Middle School’ category. This is the 13th year that Carlsbad High School’s program has been honored with the Award of Excellence and the 9th win for Valley Middle School.

Gabe Benson, 8th Grader at Valley Middle School, said “winning the Award of Excellence is incredibly motivating that our hard work at VMSTV was recognized.” Shaylynn Foley, Senior Executive Producer at Carlsbad High School’s CHSTV, stated “producing an award-winning show is motivation to continue to take risks, never settling for average, but striving for excellence.”
“Congratulations to VMSTV and CHSTV for winning the Broadcast Excellence Awards for Best Middle School and Best Daily Live Show (respectively). VMSTV and CHSTV are outstanding examples of scholastic journalism and they inspire our schools to exceed expectations,” said Nancy Held Loucas, Student Television Network CEO.

Doug Green, program advisor for CHSTV and VMSTV and former California Teacher of the Year, stated “I am so proud of the students from both broadcasting programs for their incredible dedication to storytelling and live broadcasting. This is their program and they take tremendous
pride in the work that they do to raise the bar for scholastic broadcasting.”

Valley Middle School and Carlsbad High School’s broadcast journalism program is a Grade 7-12 Career Pathway for students who are interested in careers where they will have an opportunity to create, communicate, collaborate, and innovate.
