CUSD Students 'Stand by us'

At CUSD's State of the District Event, Students Invite Community to "Stand By Us."

Parents, business partners, elected officials, educators and community members were invited to join CUSD Board members and principals to “Stand By Us” at the CUSD’s second annual State of the District event on Oct. 22.

Student ambassadors greeted guests, the Carlsbad Educational Foundation presented a generous check, and the Carlsbad High School Sound Express performed a rousing rendition of “Stand By Us.”

Superintendent Suzette Lovely said that vibrant communities need vibrant schools, and described many of the community partnerships that support the Carlsbad schools.

Carlsbad Educational Foundation’s CEO Michelle Ginn presented the district with a check for $810,000 to support innovative programs for students; San Diego County’s California Career Pathways Trust (CCPT) grant, to prepare students for college and the careers of the future, will provide $430,000 to CUSD build programs at the high schools; an agreement with MiraCosta College has encouraged hundreds of CUSD students to take college classes; the PTA Council offers a variety of programs to support students and parents; and the City of Carlsbad works with the district to keep schools safe and healthy for kids. “Working together,” said Lovely,

“We are committed to cultivating a region that promotes innovation, collaboration and economic prosperity.”
