Carlsbad Unified's Doug Green Named a San Diego County Teacher of the Year for 2016

Valley Middle School and Carlsbad High School Broadcast Journalism teacher Doug Green has been named one of five San Diego County Teachers of the Year for 2016.
At a gala held Saturday night at the Balboa Theater, 44 Teacher of the Year nominees were honored, and five teachers were selected to represent San Diego County in the California Teacher of the Year Program.
This marks the second consecutive year in which a Carlsbad Unified teacher was named San Diego County Teacher of the Year. Last year Maria Teran Cruz from Jefferson Elementary School was selected. There are over 26,000 teachers who work in San Diego County.

Mr. Green teaches Broadcasting as an elective class at Valley, molding students of all abilities and skills into important players on a Broadcasting team. Students learn different roles both in front of and behind the camera, “pitch” story ideas to their classmates, and produce shows that are televised for the school and the greater community.
Mr. Green also teaches Broadcast Journalism at Carlsbad High School, where CHSTV students produce a daily news program. His filmmakers have created three highly acclaimed documentaries: “We Must Remember,” “One in Seven-The New Face of Hunger,” and “Invisible Threat.”
