DUI Checkpoint Planned Friday In Carlsbad

CARLSBAD, CA – In an effort to curb drunk driving around the city, the Oceanside Office of the California Highway Patrol and Carlsbad Police Department are conducting a sobriety checkpoint Friday. The checkpoint will take place at an undisclosed location within the city limits of Carlsbad, CHP Officer Mark Latulippe said.
"This checkpoint is named after two Oceanside CHP officers who lost their life on duty as a result of someone drinking and driving," Latulippe said.
Someone in the United States is seriously injured or killed in a DUI-related collision every 15 minutes, Latulippe said.

During the Friday checkpoint, officers will be on the lookout for drivers with signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment.
"Our objective is to send a clear message and to deter those individuals who have been drinking and/or using drugs to not get behind the wheel of a vehicle," Latulippe said.
