Kids in Carlsbad’s southern sector will soon have a Clubhouse of their own – the ’s Bressi facility will officially be opening Phase One at the end of this month.
“We are so pleased to welcome the community to Phase One of our brand new facility,” said Club CEO Brad Holland. “We got our feet wet over the summer by running some sports camps, and they were very well received. It is gratifying to see our dream turn to reality.”
Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad’s original Village Branch was established nearly sixty years ago – the same year the City of Carlsbad was incorporated. It will continue to serve the downtown population for many years to come.

The La Costa Branch – a tiny trailer – was originally intended for temporary duty when it was established in 1982. Today, nearly 30 years later, it is literally bursting at the seams. That sector of Carlsbad has experienced tremendous growth, and the small mobile unit simply could not keep pace.
In order to continue their legacy of caring and service to all youth in Carlsbad, the Club forged ahead with their plan to build a new state-of-the-art Clubhouse in the geographic center of the city – Bressi Ranch – which will replace the current La Costa Branch modular unit.

Construction began in 2008, and currently, the exterior and Phase One (the gym, teen center, and restrooms) has been completed. A non-profit organization, the Club is supported solely by private donations and grants. It is estimated that Phase Two will require an additional $1 million to complete.
“With the opening of Phase One only, we will have to limit the number of kids we can accept for after school programming,” stated Holland. “We currently have nearly 75 children signed up; our capacity is 125.” Youth activities will include programs that focus on character and leadership development, the arts, sports, and recreational pursuits.
A grand opening celebration is scheduled for Sunday, August 28, from 1:00-3:00 pm and will feature fun, food, Club tours, and activities for the entire family. Everyone is welcome; please plan on joining your newest neighbor – the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad!
