CHS is one of 100 finalists, and the top eleven schools in the “large high school” division of the Drive 2N2 contest will win $100,000. If CHS wins, some of the money will fund extensive programming on CHSTV (short films, stories for its live broadcast, and public service announcements) to promote safe teen driving. CHSTV, the high school’s broadcast journalism program, is taught by California’s 2016 Teacher of the Year, Doug Green.

Sponsored by State Farm Insurance, the Drive 2N2 campaign encourages young drivers to develop two simple habits -- 2 eyes on the road and 2 hands on the wheel. Those practices reduce distracted driving and at the same time help new drivers build confidence on the road. Car crashes are the #1 killer of teenagers. And a teen’s first year of driving is by far the most dangerous. Drive 2N2 was created to combat the epidemic of teen-driver accidents and to raise awareness about the importance of teen-driver safety.

Carlsbad High School is the only high school in San Diego County, and one of just three high schools in all of Southern California, to make it into the finals. Over 700 entries were submitted nationwide.
