La Costa Glen retirement community names first STAR of the Year
Senior community's Ernie LeDuc honored for providing excellent customer service to residents.
La Costa Glen, the continuing care retirement community in Carlsbad, has unveiled a new employee awards program designed to recognize staff members who provide outstanding service to the community’s residents.
La Costa Glen employees are nominated for the “STAR” award primarily by their colleagues and the residents of La Costa Glen. A committee then votes to determine the employee of each quarter and ultimately determines the “STAR of the Year.” The quarterly employees win a cash award and the STAR of the Year receives a gift valued at $5,000, which is funded by La Costa Glen management. The retirement community currently employs 360 people at its Carlsbad campus.
Ernie LeDuc, a member of La Costa Glen’s Accounting Department who joined the community in 2012, was named La Costa Glen’s first STAR of the year.

“Ernie was presented with the STAR award based on his excellent customer service to both residents and fellow staff members,” said Darcie Gorman, director of Accounting Services for La Costa Glen and LeDuc’s supervisor. “Not only does he demonstrate a high level of integrity and a strong work ethic, he consistently maintains a positive attitude. Residents enjoy working with him because of his cheerful disposition and overall efficiency in the billing department. That’s exactly the type of individual we want to honor with the STAR award.”
LeDuc plans to use the STAR award money to take his wife, sister and brother-in-law to New York City to finally visit their aunt and uncle in their home town.
