Leadership Training for CHS Students
Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary hosted CHS students at Camp Idyllwild
The Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary (CHNR) Club sponsored eight students from Carlsbad High School to the Rotary District RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) Conference at Camp Idyllwild recently. The camp is designed to bring together high school juniors from throughout San Diego and Imperial County high schools for a weekend of activities, speakers and interactive tasks. Students are selected to attend by the sponsoring Rotary club for each student's potential leadership growth.
Speakers address personal challenges overcome, worldwide issues, personal skill development and team building. Students do NOT remain with their own school peers; rather, they are assigned "families" of students from other schools . . . in an effort to learn to work together, build a team and strengthen their own personal skills.
Students attending from Carlsbad High School for the 2025 RYLA Conference: Lauren Giroux, Lily O'Neill, Kirra Herreria, Valeria Bedoya, Brandon Lynch, Aryana Mahasseni, Ethan Harnett-Perez and Broden Corona. Those students presented their own feedback of the RYLA weekend to the CHNR membership at Monday's noon meeting at the Westin. Mike Metts, longtime CHNR member and past president is instrumental in RYLA design and implementation since he has been working on it for the past 26 years.
