CARLSBAD, CA — At least one person died in a three-vehicle crash on the San Diego (5) Freeway in Carlsbad, authorities said Monday.

The crash was reported at 9:57 p.m. Sunday on the southbound San Diego Freeway at Cannon Road, an exit to Legoland, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Witnesses told the CHP that three vehicles crashed. A dark sedan and gray pickup truck were overturned in the No. 2 lane and a Jeep was facing the wrong way in the No. 4 lane.

The crash was fatal, the CHP reported. It was unclear how many people died, and from which vehicle or vehicles they were occupying.

It was unclear if any arrests were made, or if intoxication had been a factor in the crash.
