Lone Challenger Withdraws From Carlsbad School Board Election

The two incumbents will be automatically reelected.

CARLSBAD, CA — An election will not be necessary this November for the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees.

The one potential challenger in the race, Richard Rocha has withdrawn. Therefore, incumbent Trustees Elisa Williamson and Ray Pearson will be automatically reelected to the five-person board.

"Not only does this save the district several thousand dollars, it allows us to keep our focus on our responsibilities as members of the Governing Board over the next three months rather than fund-raising and campaigning," Williamson said in an email to supporters.

"I am truly grateful for the opportunity I've had to serve our community as a member of the Board for the past 16 1/2 years and look forward to the next years as I complete my fifth (and final) term," said Williamson, who currently serves as board vice president. "Thank you for your support of the students in our community."
