Man Breaks Into Carlsbad Apartment, Uses Gun to Demand Cash: Police

Police say the suspect removed a window screen to gain entry to the residence.

Carlsbad, CA — Police were searching for a man who allegedly broke into a Carlsbad apartment early Monday and used a gun to threaten the resident for money.

The alleged robbery was reported at 4:58 a.m. Monday at an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Jefferson Street, according to a statement from the Carlsbad Police Department.

The victim called to police to say someone had broken into the living room of his apartment by removing a window screen. When confronted, the intruder reportedly showed a handgun and demanded cash and cellphones.

The resident gave the burglar $25 and watched him walk out the front door, according to police.

Officers responded to the scene and proceeded to search the area for the suspect by using a tracking dog but were not able to locate him.

The suspect was described as a white man in his 20s, who stands about 6 feet tall and weighs between 175 and 180 pounds. He was reportedly wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a yellow hood covering his face.
