Mercury Open Tennis Player Flown to Wrong Carlsbad!

Poor Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia. A confused travel agent booked her flight to Carlsbad, New Mexico. She arrived in the correct Carlsbad on Monday, but lost her match.

The world's 53rd-ranked women's singles player, Bojana Jovanovski, had quite the journey getting to the for the . 

The 19-year-old Serbian was flown from Washington, D.C., to Carlsbad, New Mexico. According to the tournament's J. Fred Sidhu, an assistant in the tournament transportation office took a call Sunday from Jovanovski who wondered where her ride was. Meanwhile, her driver was at the airport wondering where she was. Jovanovski asked a pilot standing nearby for help and determined she was in the wrong Carlsbad, Sidhu said. Apparently a Serbian travel agent got the two Carlsbads confused.

Tournament officials were able to get her to Albuquerque and then to the correct Carlsbad on Monday, where she arrived shortly before taking the court for her first-round match. Whether she was tired from the extra travel or not, she lost to Sicily's Roberta Vinci, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. She reportedly plans to remain in the right Carlsbad for a couple of days to practice before going to the next Women's Tennis Association event in Toronto.
