Newly Rebuilt Fire Station 2 Opens In Carlsbad
Fire Station 2 was reconstructed at the site of the 1960s station it replaced on the corner of Arenal and El Camino Real.
CARLSBAD, CA — A new fire station is now open in Carlsbad. The city on Thursday celebrated the completion of Fire Station 2 with a fire hose uncoupling ceremony.
Fire Station 2 was reconstructed at the site of the 1960s station it replaced on the corner of Arenal and El Camino Real. The 10,000-square-foot station is nearly three times as big as the former station, now with space for a larger crew and modern firefighting equipment and emergency vehicles.
The fire station opened in 1969 when it was home to one firefighter who responded to about 250 calls a year, according to the city. Today, Fire Station 2 has five crew members who respond to more than 4,000 calls each year.

The new station can accommodate up to five emergency response vehicles, including a 60-foot ladder truck, fire engine and ambulance, according to the city. Sustainability features include solar panels, a solar hot water heater, low-energy-use lighting and two EV charging stations the public can use.
In 2016, Carlsbad voters authorized the city to spend city funds to build the new station. The city's municipal code requires voter approval before spending more than $1 million to acquire or make major improvements to property.
