Recently, Carlsbad High School's choral department held their annual "Night with the Stars" performance, which ran from Feb. 27 to feb. 28 in the Carlsbad Cultural Arts Center. The event was open to the public, and they encouraged all to come watch a truly spectacular performance. The showcase features the four levels of Carlsbad High School choir which include Lancer Choir, Encore, Chambers Singers and Sound Express.
Originally, "Night with the Stars" was created to help members of the choral department practice their competition material before the season starts, but it is now a full performance put on well into the competition season.
“This is different from most of our shows because it focuses a lot on solo group acts. It gives students a chance to see what it’s like to perform alone or with one other person in front of an audience,” sophomore Kammy Carbone said.
The showcase featured many acts from siblings duos, to stunning solos. The competition set from Encore was created after the popular teen movie "Mean Girls", which had students engaged in the performance. The big finale had the audience on the edge of their seats as Sound Express performed their "Robin Hood" set as well.
“We have new themes and songs every year, our sets are never predictable,” junior Max DeLoach said. “It is definitely suspenseful for the audience.”
The performances featured beautiful costumes, tightly executed dance choreography and of course, stellar vocal talent.
“Night with the Stars” is beneficial to all the students involved, as it helps some students think about their future in performing after trying it with fewer people, and it helps the different choirs prepare for competitions or festivals.”
Student and everyone else involved with the department put a lot of time into the performances throughout the year. The department is always graciously accepting donations as well as volunteers to help keep the program running smoothly.
Each showcase has a different energy and focus, like the popular "Pops", an acapella concert featuring modern music held in late Spring. If you missed this choir show, be sure to look for more showcases throughout the year from the CHS Choral Department.
