Pedestrian Fatally Struck While Crossing Street In North County

ENCINITAS, CA — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a pickup truck Monday in northern San Diego County, authorities said.

The man was crossing the street in the 1300 block of Encinitas Boulevard in Encinitas when the vehicle struck him shortly before 6 a.m., according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The 79-year-old man, whose name was not immediately available, died at the scene, sheriff's Sgt. Rob Siegfried said. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision, Siegfried said. The crash was under investigation.
