Plane Crashes on Carlsbad Beach on 4th of July
The pilot walked away unhurt, but a 12-year-old boy on the beach was transported to the hospital.

Update:
A 12-year-old boy was hospitalized with injuries received in the crash today of a single-engine plane on Carlsbad State Beach, authorities said.
It happened just after 3 p.m. in the 4600 block of Carlsbad Boulevard, near the Encina Power Plant, when the plane’s engine failed as it flew over the water and lost the banner it towed, Lt. Justin McHenry of California State Parks said.

The plane dove toward the beach and crashed, leaving the 23-year-old pilot uninjured, McHenry said. Video from the scene shows a single-engine plane upside down in shallow water.
The injured boy was taken to San Diego’s Children’s Hospital, according to McHenry.

The Federal Aviation Administration told San Diego’s NBC7 the Piper PA18 is owned by an El Cajon company named Air Ads Inc.

Update:
A small, single engine plane towing an advertising banner crashed on a Carlsbad beach, according to the FAA. The pilot was the only person aboard the aircrast and walked away unhurt.The crash was at the waterline next to the Carlsbad power plant.
A teen on the beach was transported to the hospital, reportedly with minor injuries.
The plane ended up upside down. The beach was extremely crowded with 4th of July visitors.

A small aircraft, possibly towing an advertising banner, crashed into the ocean next to the Carlsbad power plant today.
A witness told a San Diego TV station, 10News, that a child was seen being loaded onto an ambulance after the crash. That report was not confirmed.
Pictures from the scene showed a single engine plane, upside down in shallow water, on a crowded beach.
The crash was reportedly just after 3 p.m. in the surf, at the 4600 block of Carlsbad Boulevard. That location was near the “warm water jetty” in the ocean, north of Cannon Road, in Carlsbad.
