San Diego wildfires wreaked havoc last week across the county, and many residents suffered losses. One Carlsbad resident, Greg Saska of Skimmer Court, lost his home and everything he owned. He lived in an adobe home that was inherited from his parents - if you watched news coverage you likely saw Greg fighting to save his home, watching it burn, or standing in front of the remains. He has no insurance.
Last week I read a post on Nextdoor.com, a wonderful site that connects neighbors (and was a blessing while we were evacuated and needed to communicate with each other). The post was written by Stephanie Danielson-Tan, one of Greg's neighbors. She asked the community to help bring food, clothing and supplies to Greg. The outpouring of donations and love that resulted from that post was unbelievable. I met Greg and he touched my heart; he is truly a wonderful person, deserving and full of appreciation.
Greg still needs our help, and the best way to do so is to make a donation, however small, by visiting http://www.gofundme.com/Greg-Saska-Rebuilding-Fun .Every dollar helps.
Greg is also temporarily in need of a motor home so that he can live comfortably on his property during the rebuilding. If you can help or know someone who can, especially if there are any owners of places that rent these vehicles and would like to assist, please reply to this post.
Tragedies often bring people together, and bring out the best in people. All of those who are helping fire victims are truly wonderful, selfless people. THANK YOU to all of you. Our communities will heal and become stronger because of you.
