Roommate Dispute Leads to Stabbing in Carlsbad

CARLSBAD, CA – A Carlsbad man was arrested Thursday after allegedly stabbing his roommate in the back.
Police said Seth Kuykendall, 18, called the Carlsbad Police Department shortly before 8:30 a.m. to report that he stabbed his roommate in the back following a dispute at their apartment in the 2200 block of Avenida Magnifica.
"The caller went on to report that he had placed the steak knife he used in the sink and that he was waiting on the porch for the police and fire departments," Lt. Jeff Smith said. "The caller noted that there was a third roommate inside the apartment (who) was providing medical aid to the victim."

Officials said the Oceanside Fire Department transported the 20-year-old victim to a landing field where he was then transported by air to Scripps Medical Center in La Jolla.
The victim is currently in stable condition. His name was not immediately released.

Police said Kuykendall was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held at Vista Detention Facility on $30,000 bail, with arraignment scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
The incident is still under investigation.
