Staff at Jefferson Elementary Get Special Valentine's Day Surprise
As one teacher tells Carlsbad Patch in a letter to the editor, the principal and head custodian surprised them with long stemmed roses and a Mariachi band.
Note - Carlsbad Unified schools were off Feb. 14 for a furlough day.
The day before Valentine's day was a very special day at Jefferson Elementary School in Carlsbad. It started with a call for all teachers to go to the auditorium to get our new ID badges. To our surprise, our principal, Mr. Lund was waiting for us with a red rose and a wish for a wonderful Valentine's Day. Wow, what a great way to start the day, with a big smile and a feeling of love and appreciation.
We still had a staff meeting after school with a long list of things to cover. So again, at the end of the day, back in the auditorium we were ready for the meeting to start when we heard the walkie talkie go off with "we are ready." Mr. Lund led us to the quad area and we were again surprised with Mariachis! Our head custodian, Manny Maldonado had brought us music to end our day. For an hour we sang and danced to the music of Mexico. We felt so much joy and kindness from these two people who wanted to make our day meaningful. As we heard the music we were so happy to be part of a very special and caring community, our school!
