Super Hero Obstacle Race Slated Sunday In Carlsbad

CARLSBAD, CA — Grab your capes and disguises, because the Super Hero Obstacle Race is coming to Carlsbad.

Dress up like your favorite superhero for the superhero-themed 2K obstacle course Sunday at Alga Norte Community Park.

Children and their parents, grandparents, caregivers or older siblings will defeat villains while leaping over tall buildings, crawling through toxic tunnels, and navigating 20 obstacles throughout the park. Participants will conquer inflatable mazes and slides, wrecking balls, tights ropes, web crawlers and other obstacles along the way.

In this race, everyone is a winner, and each participant will receive a free superhero cape, bib and finishing medal. Children must be at least 4 years old to participate.

The event is hosted by the city's Parks and Recreation Department. The race first started in 2014, the year Alga Norte Community Park opened, according to Rachael Shay, the city's special events supervisor.

"We wanted to provide an opportunity for families to connect together outdoors in a race that highlighted fitness and fun," Shay told Patch. "Families and friends ages 4 to 100 can register, dress up like superheroes, and run through the 20 superhero-themed obstacles and receive a cape and medal."

The Super Hero Obstacle Race will take place from 8-10 a.m. Sunday at Alga Norte Community Park at 6565 Alicante Road. The race will take roughly one hour to complete, with staggered start times every 10 minutes.

Registration costs $25 per participant. Online registration ends at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Participants can register on site on Sunday.
