Suspect Jailed In Fatal San Marcos Hit-Run

John J. Alvarado, 39, was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of hit-and-run causing death and gross vehicular manslaughter.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A San Marcos man was arrested this week for allegedly fleeing after the SUV he was driving struck and killed a pedestrian in a neighborhood near Palomar College, authorities announced Friday.

John J. Alvarado, 39, was taken into custody Thursday in connection with the roadway death of 62-year-old Carey Faust of Vista on Feb. 21, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

At about 8:30 p.m. that day, a white 2022 Hyundai Venue struck Faust as he was standing behind his parked vehicle in the 100 block of North Pacific Street in San Marcos. Faust died at the scene.

Following the deadly impact, the motorist fled on foot, sheriff's Sgt. Jeremy Collis said.

Alvarado was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of hit-and-run causing death and gross vehicular manslaughter. He was being held on $300,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Monday afternoon.
