Suspected Prowler Arrested In San Diego's North County

Authorities believe the man may be connected to other prowling incidents in Cardiff in recent months.

ENCINITAS, CA — A suspected prowler was arrested this week after being spotted lurking in a yard in northern San Diego County, authorities said.

A woman called 911 shortly before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and reported seeing a man walk through the side fence and go to the backyard of her home in the 2100 block of Oxford Avenue in the Cardiff community of Encinitas, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

When deputies arrived, they saw a pickup truck leaving the area. The driver was speeding and running stop signs, according to the sheriff's department. Deputies pulled over the driver, identified as Darren Amador, 51, in the 600 block of Lomas Santa Fe Drive in Solana Beach. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of prowling.

Authorities believe Amador, who they said matched surveillance video, may be connected to other prowling incidents in Cardiff in recent months.
