Toss 'Ready Pac' Products With Romaine Lettuce and 'Use By' Nov. 18 Date

The products were sold locally in ’s stores and had been removed from shelves Friday. Officials said there have been no reported cases of illness linked to the products, but urged the public to be cautious because the products may have already been purchased by some consumers.

Ready Pac Foods, Inc. of Irwindale voluntarily recalled more than 5,000 cases of the bagged salad products that contained romaine lettuce.

The recall applied to the following items with the Nov. 18 “Use by” date:

• ·         10oz. Ready Pac Caesar Romaine
• ·         9.25 oz Ready Pac Santa Fe Caesar Complete Salad
• ·         10oz. Ready Pac Classic Caesar Complete Salad
• ·         10oz. Ready Pac Bella Romaine
• ·         10oz. Dining In Classic Caesar Salad Kit
• ·         10oz. Trader Joe’s Romaine Salad
• ·         16oz. Trader Joe’s Very American Salad
  
  

E. coli infection often causes abdominal cramps and bloody diarrhea. There is usually little or no fever and the illness typically resolves itself in five to 10 days. A small percentage of people who become infected may also develop hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious condition that may lead to kidney failure.

People who are most vulnerable to serious complications of food-borne illness include young children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. Consumers should seek immediate medical care if they develop these symptoms.
