Instructor Pilot Killed In Hayward Helicopter Crash
A student aboard the helicopter when it crashed was seriously injured.
HAYWARD, CA — One man was killed and another seriously injured when a helicopter crashed at Hayward Executive Airport Monday afternoon. The helicopter had an instructor pilot and student aboard. The instructor died while the student suffered serious injuries and was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.
The instructor was Wayne Prodger, 62, of Sunnyvale. The name of the injured student has not been released.
The Hayward Fire Department initially confirmed that two people had been injured, but the coroner was later called to the scene.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate what caused the Robinson 44 to go down.
The crash happened around 2:30 p.m.

The Hayward Executive Airport is a former WWII fighter base situated on 543 acres. It has two parallel runways and over 400 aircraft are based at the airport including corporate jets.
