BREAKING: 6-Year-Old Injured in Hit-And-Run Crash
Fire officials say the child, who was trapped for a short time after the collision, has been taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
CASTRO VALLEY, CA: California Highway Patrol officers are searching a Castro Valley neighborhood this morning for the driver of a possible stolen car who struck a young child walking with his family and then ran from a crash, a CHP officer said.
The 6-year-old boy was out walking on Meadowview Drive toward Marshall Street at about 8 a.m. and stopped on the sidewalk. While he was stopped, a black sedan coming up behind him veered onto the sidewalk and hit the child, CHP Officer Dan Jacowitz said.

The driver kept going on the sidewalk after hitting the boy, eventually crashing into a pole nearby. He got out of the car and ran into the neighborhood, Jacowitz said. The child was taken to a hospital with severe injuries. CHP officers responded and are searching for the suspect, and believe he may be hiding in a house nearby. Jacowitz could not immediately provide a description of the suspect. The crashed sedan could be a stolen car.
Alameda County sheriff's deputies have contacted the owner of the car, who said it had been dropped off at a Ford dealership on Sunday night, CHP officials said. The Ford dealership has since reported a break-in. CHP officers are asking anyone with information about the suspect or who may have relevant surveillance video to contact the CHP Castro Valley office at (510) 581-9028.
