March 27, 2014 at the Moose Lodge, Laura was the Toastmaster of the evening. She spoke of sunflowers as she orchestrated the meeting, introduced the role keepers, the speakers, the Topics Master and the General Evaluator.
Our speakers for the evening represented three very different topical plants from the garden of life. Janet kicked off with our appetizer, applying the three Rs of the environment, reduce, reuse and THEN recycle to the three Ps of the write stuff - paper, pens and pencils. Sachiko provided the second course, a journey of connecting the dots, showing that you never understand the interconnectedness of things that happen in your life until you look back and reflect upon them. Jean then served desert and had us rolling on the floor, not in pain or agony, but in laughter as she took us on a journey through things that make us angry.
Sarah then took control of the meeting as Topic Master. Julie spoke of her ideal garden. Kathryn told us of her favorite item from the garden - green onions. Pam took us on a tour of her favorite gardens. Joel told us about his garden in Castro Valley.
Fred then stepped forward for his first time as the General Evaluator. After Pam, Joel and Roger gave their evaluations of the three speakers, Fred followed with his evaluation of the meeting.
Kathryn joined us again as a guest. Do I see a new member in our future? We'd love to have her join us.
NOTE: We will not be meeting on April 3. All are encouraged to attend the Division A contest being held that evening. Our club will be represented in the Table Topics competition by Sarah M. Jim is the alternate contestant in the International Speech competition if the Area A2 winner cannot make it. The contest is on April 3 from 6 to 8 pm at the San Leandro Main Library. The library is located at 300 Estudillo which is near Davis and 14th Street. https://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&q=San+Leandro+Main+Library&fb=1&gl=us&hq=san+leandro+public+library&cid=4183278959734909332&ei=BMM5U6eDN4aOyAHqioGQCg&ved=0CKABEPwSMA0 https://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&q=San+Leandro+Main+Library&fb=1&gl......
