• Facing Mounting Financial Strain, Oakland Catholic Diocese Will Close 13 East Bay Churches (patch.com) — Catholic parishioners in Castro Valley are among those affected as the Oakland Diocese announces plans to close 13 East Bay churches, including Transfiguration in Castro Valley. Diocesan leaders cite severe financial strain from abuse lawsuits, shrinking attendance, and fewer priests, saying the current structure is no longer sustainable and difficult decisions are needed to keep remaining parishes viable.    

• Livermore juvenile released after arrest on suspicion of stealing car, fleeing (pleasantonweekly.com) — A police pursuit of a reportedly stolen Acura MDX ended with a crash in Castro Valley after starting in Livermore along I-580. Officers later arrested a Livermore juvenile driver, who was booked but then released home when Juvenile Hall declined to accept him, while the originally stolen Acura TLX is still missing.
