CASTRO VALLEY, CA — A 63-year-old man was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with a hit-and-run crash in Castro Valley that left a pedestrian dead, police said.
Police did not provide details about what led up to the crash. The crash happened just before 1:30 p.m. at Somerset and Anita avenues in Castro Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol - Hayward.
There, officers found the injured pedestrian, but no driver, police said. Despite officers' best efforts to save his life, the man died at the scene, police said. His identity was not released.
Investigators quickly identified a white Chevrolet Tahoe used in the hit-and-run crash and tracked it to a Castro Valley address, police said.
Officers responded to the address around 3 p.m. and took Timothy Dewitt into custody on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death, police said.
"This tragic incident underscores the devastating consequences of hit-and-run crashes," CHP Lt. Nick Pascoe said in a statement. "We're grateful to our Alameda County Sheriff's Office partners for their assistance in locating the suspect."
